PCI is a technical standard, with updates made to the regulations last month, and CIOs need to make themselves aware of what has changed.
New Technologies and virtualisation were overlooked in previous versions of PCI regulations. They are being considered currently as is a better process for managing risk and the consolidation of documentation that is required, according to Smith.
This can be seen as a chance to improve internal security in an organisation, Smith says, with the winners being the CIOs who, if they begin planning early, will be better off under PCI regulations.
